Maya Suzuki has helped women, men and children using acupuncture and moxa in fertility, maternity, and pediatrics for over ten years.
As many of you may know by now I have worked in the field of fertility medicine, maternity, and finally with pediatrics for a very long time. Throughout my career I can tell you that there is one common link: those with a higher basal body temperature (BBT) are healthier, have less anxiety, are more fertile, have better pregnancies, and better births. In short, they kick those of us with low BBT's to the curb.
For us average humans the normal average body temperature is anywhere from 97.6 to 99 degrees F. but tends to average closer to 97.6. This number has actually been steadily dropping since the industrial revolution for the obvious reason that we have less people doing hard labor. Children, of course, tend to have higher BBT especially babies. Saying that, humans as a whole are growing colder by the generation and the diseases that flourish in that low body temperature are growing with us.
"As a whole, we are not seeing as much of the hot, feverish, inflammatory diseases affecting mankind. We are now seeing more cold, sclerotic illnesses. We are seeing what used to predominantly be old, cold, geriatric illnesses now afflicting our children! Many children have never had a fever, since their body’s thermostat is generationally set too low, and their core temp is always below 97.0F (36.1C) Chronic cold illnesses such as, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, cancer, Lyme disease, Multiple Sclerosis, diabetes, arthritis, arteriosclerosis, and heart disease, are all classified as “cold, sclerotic diseases” and we see in each of these that the body becomes progressively colder, with very predictable problems, like increased levels of viruses, bacteria, and fungi arising as a result.
As the body cools, the electrical oscillations of the fluids in the body slow down and there is a shift in the body’s polarity which promotes infectious microbes and cancer."

So how high of a body temperature should you aim for? Studies coming out of Japan are suggesting around 99 degrees could increase your immunity 5 to 6 times! There is actually research studies currently being conducted that are proving the you can possibly slow or kill cancer with just one degree increase of the BBT. Now that's something to pay attention to.
How can you raise your BBT and your childs? There are some simple tricks that are very cost effective that I have listed below:
1. Eat warm, cooked foods
2. Include root vegetables in your foods
3. Don't eat anything that is colder than room temperature
4. Exercise and play more!
5. Wear warm clothes that protect the middrif and ankles. Your ankles are the farthest from your heart. Keep you heat in by wearing long socks or leg warmers.
6. Get acupuncture! Acupuncture and shonishin acutherapy is proven to raise the BBT, improve blood flow, and give more oxygen to your system. It also improves hormone function which also helps to regulate your BBT.
